The ban on crypto mining in Iran will be lifted on September 22, said the Iran Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company (Tavanir).
- The ban was imposed amid frequent power blackouts. The decision to lift the ban is taken considering that there will be less power consumption by the end of summer providing enough facilities to legal crypto miners.
- In April, the Energy Ministry increased the tariff for crypto mining to 16,574 rials for one kilowatt-hour which is four times the previous tariff of 4,800 rials for one kilowatt-hour.
- Only the registered miners can resume operations in September whereas the illegal miners, being the reason for blackouts and strain on electric supply, won’t be able to mine Bitcoin.
- Reportedly, Tavanir has confiscated more than 212,373 mining equipment in the last 12 months to prevent shortages and safeguard the national network.
