In a strategic move aligning with its vision for 2024, Web3 metaverse developer Improbable has announced the sale of its gaming venture, The Multiplayer Group (MPG), to Keywords Studios for £76.5 million ($97.1 million). The co-founder and CEO of Improbable, Herman Narula, emphasized the shared values with Keywords Studios and expressed excitement about MPG’s new chapter, highlighting Keywords’ collaborations with major gaming industry players.
This transaction marks a significant step in Improbable’s venture strategy for 2024, following its initial acquisition of MPG in 2019 for approximately £30 million. Narula stated that nurturing ventures across sports, Web3, and fashion is integral to Improbable’s philosophy, contributing to lasting value creation.
Improbable’s 2024 predictions emphasize the continued significance of the metaverse and Web3, rejecting the notion that they are outdated. Narula anticipates growth in the metaverse, driven by the convergence of gaming, virtual reality (VR), extended reality (XR), and Web3 technologies.
The company foresees increased consolidation and streamlining in the gaming, Web3, and crypto sectors throughout 2024. Improbable believes this trend will result in a more robust and cohesive startup ecosystem, strengthening the overall industry.
In 2023, Improbable collaborated with Major League Baseball to develop a virtual baseball stadium, providing fans with immersive digital reality experiences. Looking ahead, the company predicts a rise in physical-digital crossover experiences within the gaming realm and an expanding role for generative artificial intelligence (AI) in content creation and business applications.
Peter Lipka, Improbable’s co-founder and chief operating officer, highlighted the revolutionary impact of AI on business operations and projected the emergence of AI-generated 3D interactive objects in 2024.
Improbable’s optimism about the future of Web3 and gaming aligns with broader industry sentiments. GameFi executives, Yat Siu and Johnson Yeh, anticipate an increased influx of users into Web3 through blockchain games in the coming year. As Improbable reshapes its focus, the gaming industry braces for transformative developments in the evolving landscape of Web3 technologies.
