The Uniswap Foundation, the organization behind the decentralized finance (DeFi) platform Uniswap, has announced a tentative deployment date for the protocol’s v4 following the upcoming Ethereum Dencun upgrade.
In a post on their platform, the foundation outlined their roadmap for the rollout of v4. Currently, they are in the “Code Freeze” phase, focusing on core code completion, testing, gas optimization, security enhancements, and finalizing peripheral aspects.
Next, the Uniswap Foundation will engage audit firms and hold a community audit contest to ensure the thorough examination of v4’s code. They aim for Uniswap v4 to have the most rigorous auditing process ever conducted for code deployed on Ethereum. Concurrently, the decentralized exchange (DEX) will be deployed to the testnet as final adjustments are made.
The third phase involves the deployment of Uniswap v4 to the Ethereum mainnet, tentatively scheduled for the third quarter of 2024. The foundation emphasizes that this date is subject to change depending on the progress of the Ethereum Dencun upgrade.
The Dencun upgrade, which includes Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) like EIP-4844 for proto-danksharding to reduce layer 2 transaction fees, was activated on the Goerli testnet on Jan. 17. Despite a four-hour delay in the Goerli deployment, the upgrade proceeded smoothly on the Sepolia testnet on Jan. 31 and the Holesky testnet on Feb. 7.
Ethereum developer Tim Beiko announced on Feb. 8 that the upgrade is scheduled for the mainnet at “slot 8626176.” According to blockchain research firm Nethermind, this is projected to occur on March 13, 2024, at 13:55:35 UTC, as decided by Ethereum developers in a call following the successful Holesky testnet deployment.
