Lee was found by the cops in an unconscious state with stab wounds, in the Rincon Hill neighborhood of San Francisco at 2:30 a.m. on April 4. He later died at a hospital due to injuries.
A regional news outlet Mission Local , first reported on the arrest and identified the suspect as someone who works in the tech industry. Citing police sources, Mission Local reported Mr. Lee and the suspect were in a vehicle together and had an argument before Mr. Lee was impaled .Police officers first responded to reports of the stabbing at around 02:35 local time (09:35 GMT) on 4 April. The San Francisco Standard viewed CCTV footage that shows Mr. Lee walking down a deserted passage , evidently looking for help. He is seen tripping towards a parked car and lifting up his shirt to reveal his wound, but the vehicle drives off before the tech entrepreneur falls to the ground.
Earlier In 2011 Mr. Momeni who’s LinkedIn says he is the owner of a company called Expand IT, Inc, was charged with misconduct for carrying a switchblade, criminal records show, but the case was dismissed after he took a plea deal.
Addressing the press in a conference, San Francisco’s Police Chief Bill Scott announced the arrest of Nima Momeni and revealed a prior connection between Lee and him. He said that “the evidence shows that [Momeni and Lee] knew each other ” debarring all the possibilities of a ‘Random Attack’, as portrayed by some media outlets, to tarnish the image of San francisco as a ‘crime ridden city’. However Scott refused to disclose how the suspect was linked to Bob and also the possible motive behind his murder , as the case is still on trial.
San Fransico’s district attorney Brooke Jenkins advises the media and the residents of the city not to jump to any conclusions about the ‘hows and whats’ of the scenario, adding that the case is still under investigation and accused those who linked Mr Lee’s murder to overall safety in San Francisco of making “reckless and irresponsible” statements. she said,
“We knew nothing about the facts of this case immediately after it happened — none of us did. My urging, through Twitter, through the news, was to really press upon not just the media but the residents of San Francisco and everyone else not to draw conclusions about what happened in this case.”
With special mention of Elon Musk by name , who tweeted after Mr. Lee’s stabbing that “violent crime in San Francisco is horrific and even if attackers are caught, they are often released immediately.”
Ms Jenkins said tweets like his “assumed incorrect circumstances about Mr. Lee’s death [and] served to mislead the world in their perceptions of San Francisco”.
