Immutable, a prominent player in the blockchain gaming space, has forged a strategic alliance with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to expand opportunities for game developers. AWS, a leading cloud service provider, is broadening its startup accelerator programs, and Immutable is set to reap the benefits.
In a blog post dated October 10, Immutable proudly announced its inclusion in AWS’s ISV (independent software vendors) Accelerate Program. This program serves as a platform for organizations that offer software solutions designed to run on or seamlessly integrate with AWS.
Furthermore, game developers interested in creating applications on Immutable’s blockchain can now participate in AWS Activate. This program offers an array of valuable perks, such as technical support, training resources, and a generous $100,000 in AWS cloud credits.
John Kearney, the head of startups for AWS in Australia, praised Immutable as a shining example of an Australian startup with global reach. He underscored AWS’s commitment to furthering the development of Web3 games using its robust infrastructure.
Notably, Immutable has been constructed with the integration of Amazon EventBridge and AWS Lambda. These serverless services leverage events to seamlessly connect various application components. This integration has notably enhanced the platform’s scalability, enabling it to efficiently accommodate a tenfold increase in partnered games.
Concerns have previously arisen regarding the centralization of gaming and Ethereum, particularly the dependence on Amazon, which commands about a third of the cloud services market. Immutable’s product marketing lead, Michael Powell, addressed some of these concerns in an October 11 report to Fortune:
“Many blockchain enthusiasts are passionate about decentralization, insisting that everything must be on-chain. However, this deviates significantly from the way game developers typically operate.”
In August, Immutable initiated public testing of its zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) in collaboration with Polygon Labs. This innovation is set to significantly reduce development costs for game developers while ensuring the robust security and network effects associated with the Ethereum ecosystem.
Immutable’s valuation soared to $2.5 billion in March 2022 after a successful $200 million Series C funding round, predominantly led by Singaporean state-owned investment firm Temasek. This partnership with AWS is poised to provide further momentum to Immutable’s journey in the blockchain gaming space.
