Web3’s evolution faces a user experience barrier, and industry experts advocate integrating Web2 functionalities as a solution. According to attendees at Berlin’s Next Block Expo, Web3 could harness the refined user experiences of Web2 for its products and services.
Matthias Geihs, a senior cryptography engineer at Web3Auth, emphasized the challenges of cumbersome login methods and the complexities of wallet and private key management in Web3 services. Geihs highlighted data showing that 20% of lost Bitcoins stem from poor wallet management, contributing to user drop-offs during sign-ups.
Web3Auth employs multi-party computation (MPC) for passwordless authentication, focusing on noncustodial wallet infrastructure. Notably, it’s adopted by both Web3 entities like Animoca Brands and traditional companies like McDonald’s and Ubisoft. The platform allows users to log in using familiar Web2 credentials from platforms like Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Discord, integrating both Web2 loyalty and Web3 proficiency.
Using a distributed key generation protocol, Web3Auth ensures that servers collectively generate key shares without any server holding the full key. This approach maintains security, mapping these distributed keys to a user’s identity through their chosen Web2 or Web3 login method.
This innovative solution blends Web2 and Web3 functionalities seamlessly, allowing users to employ Web3 wallets tied to their conventional Web2 login methods without encountering cryptographic complexities.
Fernando Martinho, CEO of Relayz, stresses the need to simplify Web3 services, advocating for a streamlined login process. Meanwhile, speakers at NBX Berlin highlighted factors driving Bitcoin’s potential surge in 2024, including mining reward halving, potential ETF approvals, and recent regulatory actions affecting major industry players like Binance.
